Chapter 8

I looked for hours trying to figure out where my stuff could have gone but alas, I was not the human to find such a fortune. I was just about ready to give up when my phone pinged.

Chad: On my way.

Fuck. Fuckity. Fuck. In all my panic I’d forgotten about our standing Friday night date. Of course, Bianca would ruin my day and my date by making me horrendously late. I was on the other side of campus and didn't have time to change or shower or anything. I could message Chad and cancel, but we'd already had to cancel last week because of the holiday. Chad had to go home for Winter Break and as much as it pained me to admit, he didn't invite me.

I knew why. I wasn't an idiot. He hadn't told his parents yet. So, it wouldn't make sense to bring me over to meet them. Still, it didn't make it hurt any less. I'd already decided after my last talk with Max that I couldn't keep doing this anymore. I had to be here for me and not him. Especially, if he wasn't going to last much longer.

With an aggravated sigh, I speed walked toward my room, not wanting to add stinky to my long list of issues right now. When I got to my room, Chad was just walking up to knock. He looked good, as per usual. Jeans and a t-shirt this time but hey, he wasn't wearing flip-flops so that was a plus. Not that I could really critique him since I was wearing yoga pants and an oversized shirt with my high school logo on it. My hair was a mess, tied up in a knot on my head and I didn't have a stitch of makeup on. I felt disgusting and gross and so not pretty. Unfortunately, Chad was between me and my room so I couldn't remedy it.

I contemplated turning around and hiding from him. Shooting him a message from the communal bathroom that I was running late, but before I could do so, he saw me.

"Callie?" The questioning lilt to his voice made me cringe. Ugh. I must look worse than I thought.

"Uh, hey, Chad." I fiddled with the edge of my shirt as I moved over to him. I avoided his gaze as his eyes roamed over me. "I know, I'm a mess." I tucked a stray hair behind my ear and ducked my head as I ranted. "I had a run in with Bianca and lost all my stuff. I haven't had a chance to come back and clean up, but if you give me a few minutes I can just run in and then we can go."

"No way," Chad interrupted me with a shake of his head. "You look great. Adorable in fact. I'm half tempted to keep you locked up in your room for the evening."

"I don't look that bad, do I?" I scowled at him, crossing my arms over my chest.

Chad chuckled and pulled me into his arms.
